More than 20,000 trucking professionals headed to Dallas, TX on August 22 – 24 to attend The Great American Trucking Show. The interactive and all-encompassing public convention provided attendees with the opportunity learn from daily educational sessions and interact with the 500+ exhibitors who showcased 50,000+ products representing truck, trailer, engine, component and parts manufacturers, among many others.

project44 attended and exhibited at the event. While there, we had some valuable conversations with carriers about the benefits of freight visibility and connecting with project44. We also learned a great deal about their main concerns around data security. These concerns are important to us, so we want to take a moment to answer some of the more common questions we received at the event.

Question 1: How do you access my location data?

There are actually a few options, and we let you select whichever you prefer! We can connect directly to your ELD/telematics device or TMS, or we can help you set up a direct API connection to our platform. When integrated with your ELD/telematics, we pull location data from your ELD/telematics provider. With a TMS integration, we use an API connection to automatically receive location data from your TMS. We take the data, normalize it, and then securely share it with your customers through our Advanced Visibility Platform™. We’re happy to work with you to find the best connection method.

Question 2: How do I know you are not collecting all of my data and selling it?

This concern is totally understandable in today’s data-driven world. We take great care to protect user data and privacy. With that in mind, we follow strict data protection regulations to ensure your data is safe. We only pass your freight location data to your customers, and you decide who you share your data with and can stop any time. We do not redistribute or resell your data. We are fully GDPR compliant and always keep your data and privacy protected. We only track shipments when they are out for delivery and have been initialized by the customer—we do not track anything in between shipments and do not share Hours of Service data. Allowing an ELD/telematics integration via project44 does not give our mutual customers visibility or access into your ELD/telematics devices.

Question 3: Are you tracking my truck all the time?

Absolutely not! Our goal is to give our mutual customers real-time information on their shipments, so we only track your truck for the duration of our mutual customer’s load. The shipper tells us the shipment’s origin, destination, and any stops in between. We start tracking 90 minutes before the pick-up so we can help with scheduling, and we end tracking when your truck leaves the final delivery location. We do not track in between shipments. We respect your privacy and make sure only to track your truck during the times it’s valuable to your customers.

Question 4: What are the benefits of joining the project44 network?

Joining the project44 network allows you to become a more efficient, effective, and visible partner to shippers and brokers. Dwell times and check calls from your customers are reduced by providing location and ETA information automatically. It’s also completely free to join! With the growing demand for visibility from shippers, integrating with project44 will help you win repeat business and gain efficiencies.

Question 5: Are you a broker or a load board?

project44 is not and will never be a broker or a load board. We are a neutral party in this industry whose main goal is to make life easier for you and your customers via automated load tracking. Becoming a broker would mean directly competing with our customers, which we have no interest in doing. At project44, our mission is to usher in a new era of trust and predictability to transportation and logistics. That is simply not possible if we don’t remain neutral to the marketplace, or if we show favoritism to carriers, 3PLs, telematics, or partners.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by and chatted with us at The Great American Trucking Show! Carrier-focused events are among our favorites because they give us a chance to talk about the benefits of joining our network. It’s really about communication and collaboration, and we’re honored to be a part of the community.
