Container ship CMA CGM OSIRIS (IMO: 9882504) reportedly suffered an engine failure while exiting the port of Xiamen, China.

It is currently deployed on the Far East-Red Sea Service 2 (RES2) and was delivered in 2021 by the Hudong-Zhonghua shipyard to CMA CGM, which operates it under the Maltese flag.

According to the local sources, the giant container ship was already underway in a narrow part of the main shipping channel with the pilot on board. It is believed that the maneuvering system malfunctioned, leading to the ship losing control. Fortunately, three tugs responded almost immediately and prevented a major catastrophe.

The tugs towed the container ship back to the berth, whereupon inspection it was found that the main engine was severely damaged and needed significant repairs. The vessel has to be towed to the repair yard in Shanghai. Over 5000 containers were discharged, and these will now be delivered to their destinations by alternative ships.
