Between Jan 2 and Jan 7, Japanese carrier ONE’s containership MADRID BRIDGE (IMO: 9805453) encountered rough weather and lost up to 30 containers that reportedly fell overboard.
The incident happened while the ship passed through the North Atlantic to New York from Singapore. In a recent customer advisory posted on their website, ONE asserted, “Our immediate priorities are to ensure the safety of the crew, the vessel and the cargo on board. Delays to the vessel’s schedule are expected.”
On Jan 8, the vessel was sailing at a reduced speed, seemingly to avoid further container losses and possibly to avoid the storm. The ETA was changed from the scheduled Jan 17 to Jan 20.
The incident’s details, what transpired, and the exact number of lost and damaged containers are still unknown. On Nov 30 last year, ONE had faced containers loss aboard the ONE APUS. It seems like the container shipping industry has been going through a series of container losses over the last few years.

As per an updated shared by ONE, MADRID BRIDGE has safely departed Charleston on February 2, 2022 and is currently continuing with her voyage to Norfolk as planned, post berthing at Savannah.
With regards to the affected cargo containers, the carrier updated that it will be individually contacting the respective customers for appropriate cargo arrangement.
