We have seen in other industries that efficiency gains through digitalization have been key to coping with growth. The unencumbered flow of (standardized) data can and will support the flow of goods around the world. Unfortunately, much of our industry, specifically container shipping, still relies heavily on manual and/or paper-based processes and outdated technologies, which cause insufficient and/or delayed data exchange. But these are solvable problems. In this session, we will give examples of how digital standards deliver direct and indirect benefits to retailers by enabling real-time container tracking and tracing, more efficient port calls, and universal electronic trade documentation. Lessons learned and best practices from global deployments involving ocean carriers, cargo owners, freight forwarders and solution providers will also be shared.
