How does project44 connect with carriers to track loads?

project44 gives carriers the flexibility to choose their preferred connection method for load tracking.

You can opt for:

DriveView: Utilizing a driver’s mobile device’s GPS, DriveView securely captures real-time shipment location data with minimal driver intervention. This information is then relayed to your customers, enabling them to plan for arrivals without the need for constant status checks.

Telematics: Through a simple one-time integration process that typically takes less than a day to set up, project44 retrieves location data from your ELD provider. This data is used to provide real-time visibility to your customers.

What if I don’t have a telematics or TMS system?

Even if you don’t have a telematics or TMS system, you can still provide location data to your customers using DriveView, project44’s mobile app. DriveView is available on both iOS and Android, it’s free, and it’s easy to install and use.   DriveView communicates location and ETAs to your customer when you have an active load, and it automatically stops tracking when your trip is completed.

Why don’t you put tracking devices on shipments? 

project44 doesn’t attach tracking devices to shipments, but we do connect to your in-trailer GPS devices. If you have a telematics device and are interested in using it to provide customers with visibility, you can explore more details on our telematics resource page.

Can you use the data I already share with other visibility tracking companies?

No, our mutual customers have subscribed to project44 to access location updates on their shipments through our platform, meaning you must connect through us. After you join project44, you can easily turn on/off access to multiple customers.  

I’m new to the project44 network. What are some best practices to get started?

To ensure a smooth onboarding to the project44 network, we recommend the following: 

1. Create an account. Start by creating your account with project44 using the invitation link sent by your customer. This will ensure an immediate connection. If you don’t have an invitation link, you can sign up without one on our website.
2. Enable tracking. Choose the connection method that suits you best: DriveView mobile app, telematics account, or direct API connection. Stay engaged throughout the process until you successfully track your first load with project44. If you need help, involve the correct contact from your company.
3. Get support. If you encounter difficulties during the connection process, don’t hesitate to ask for help! Our dedicated onboarding support teams are ready to assist you and answer any questions.

I’ve joined the project44 network and successfully tracked a load! How can I achieve and maintain a high tracking performance?

1. Get Movement: Ensure you have access to Movement, project44’s platform, which provides the same visibility data, including predictive ETAs, that your customers have.

   • Use this data to engage in performance discussions with your customers.

Is project44 always tracking me?

No, project44 only tracks a truck during the duration of a mutual customer’s load. For example, if you are transporting freight for a shipper, we only receive and share tracking information 90 minutes before the scheduled pickup window, and tracking ceases when the truck leaves the final delivery location. We do not track in between shipments.

Will any broker have access to any Hours of Services (HOS) data? Will I be penalized for going over my hours?

No, none of project44’s customers, including Shippers or 3PLs, have any access to any HOS information. project44 takes the available Hours of Service for a particular shipment to factor into the estimated time of arrival (ETA) for that specific load but we never share this information. At no point is a broker ever made aware of available hours.

Is my data secure?

Yes, project44 follows strict data protection regulations to ensure your data is safe. We only pass your freight location data to your customers that you’ve authorized to receive that data. We do not redistribute or resell your data. We are fully GDPR compliant and always keep your data and privacy protected. Because you determine who we share your data with, you can stop sharing with any party at any time. Furthermore, we only track shipments when they are out for delivery and have been initialized by the customer – we do not track anything in between shipments and we do not share Hours of Service data. Authorizing a telematics integration with project44 does not give our mutual customers visibility or access into your GPS devices, only the location information for authorized shipments.

Do you have to use my driver’s cell phone?

We prefer to track shipments via telematics or API connections because they are convenient, require a one-time setup, and do not require driver intervention. If you choose to track shipments using our DriveView mobile application, we may require the driver’s phone number to initiate the shipment. However, we also offer an option for drivers to initiate shipments by entering the shipment identifier in the DriveView app without sharing their phone number with customers. If you or your customer prefer this tracking method, simply request the shipment ID/BOL# from your customer and provide it to the driver for input in the app.
