A fire had reportedly broken out on containership CERUS (IMO: 9259408) in the cargo hold area 3, early in the morning of Jul 2, local time.
The vessel was sailing in the Adriatic sea, en route from Koper to Misurata. The Italian coast guard had reported to the scene and coordinated with firefighting and further actions.
The fire was under control and the ship had to interrupt its voyage and call at Brindisi, Italy, in the afternoon of Jul 2. It is still at the same port, as on the afternoon of Jul 4. Some deck containers had to be offloaded with another 52 containers due to be offloaded on Jul 5, to gain access to Hold 3. There are no details available yet on the number of damaged or destroyed containers. Thankfully, no human casualties were reported.
